Raspberry Pi MAKE: Off – Update 3

Raspberry Pi MAKE: Off - Update 3

Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “Raspberry Pi MAKE: Off – Update 3”.
It’S day two in the morning at engadget expand this is the raspberry pi make off we’re gon na check in with our makers right now, let’s talk to eric here from team sea slugs or the sea slugs. What’S going on the sea slugs what’s going on here? What have you been working on? Well, we’ve got a device that is able to track using an rf modulator, so it’s a longer range than typical bluetooth connection about 300 feet 10 times, and i have this html5 app that built so it’ll work cross-platform and it basically just allows you to track and When you press the button it activates the sensor and the the device should make a sound and light up as soon as we get the javascript written, and so is that being served by the raspberry pi. Then it is that’s incredible, thank you, and, and so can you tell us a little bit about what what else is going on? What kind of technologies helped you to make this um? I used dreamweaver uh flash based stuff uh, but really it’s a lot of hard coding so great! Well, good luck! Thank you! All right! We’Re gon na go over here and talk to say now from team astronaut, mike dexter uh. How are things going over here? First, pretty good um. This is the this. Is the steampunk photo booth? That’S still the plan right.

Yes, you were showing me earlier this uh sort of uh shutter actuation mechanism. Can you take us through it, please sure? So when you come up to the machine um, this will be the knob that you pull to take a photo and when you pull on it it goes and then that takes a photo. These are the different effects. We haven’t mapped it yet, but they’re going to be around like hue saturation, brightness, black and white sepia, and then you hit it and the image will show up and then certain things like brightness or sepia have like a value of like how much you wanted to Do that so that’s what this knob is going to do and then we’re going to add some like star, um, save and start over buttons and hopefully get a micro site up too. So all the photos can get uploaded to it. So can you show us behind where the the uh the how the poll works? Okay, i’m going to jump over this side hold on here. We go okay demonstration on this guy, basically um.

We wanted to make something that had some kind of steampunk esque. Instead of just another push button, we needed to make something a little more wacky than that, so this is essentially just a single pole. Single throws uh switch.

Was that a paper clip just basically a single contact? That’S it that’s a paper clip in the back. We took these springs out of a uh c battery holder because we didn’t have any old springs, so we fashioned those on there bent this out. Got this thing to stop.

You know anti-rotation. So when you pull it back, that’s now like you’ve selected enter and then when he gets that pulse um, he he selects it. But basically these are two big conductors.

There’S gon na be five volts on here, and it’s just gon na break that contact and make a contact. That’S fantastic, fantastic! Thank you very much. So ingenuity and resourcefulness is definitely the theme of the raspberry pi makeoff check back this afternoon to find out the winner.
