HomeGrown Drones: MAKE talks with Brook Drumm

Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “HomeGrown Drones: MAKE talks with Brook Drumm”.
Hey this is mike’s and easy from make magazine we’re at the make drone meet up this exciting moment. Right now, brook drum and nick are about to uh take their mickey the drone robot into the sky. They promise me it’ll fly, but maybe just once yeah they said it couldn’t be done yeah. When i heard about the the meetup i knew i wanted to come and bring my boy, but i want to do something fun and not too serious, because i knew there’d be a lot of guys out here showing their stuff. But this is just an elevate from parallax a great, a great machine and we love it and we fly it all the time i have a warehouse, so i fly it inside not a lot of wind and i thought i want to strap like the make logo Or whatever, and then it just dawned on me, i could do the the whole robot. So i looked up that that issue that he made the little.

You know the little figure the mega make and i basically i just did a sketch on in my little journal. Then i scanned it, then i sketched it out in illustrator to the actual geometry of the elevate. So i had these center points laid it out on the table and then i found some spare.

This is just styrofoam from lowe’s like five dollars of styrofoam and uh. Then, once i got it together, i glued it together, uh with just like the gorilla glue that foamy stuff, and then i cut it on my laser cutters. Actually, i’ve got four laser cutters and i didn’t even know if it would work and i don’t recommend it because it’s probably i don’t know how safe it is, but instead of doing a hot wire, i just drew it out in illustrator and cut it in sections On my laser cutter, it was so easy so anyway, once i got it together, i wanted to see if it fly, so i got it to fly in the warehouse and i said, let’s paint it so levi helped me paint it. We uh roughed it up a little bit because we knew it might crash.

So actually i’m i’m kind of surprised. It flew so well, but nick’s, a good pilot. So anyway, we had a lot of fun to it and just wanted to say thanks to make for all their work.
