Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “Inkjet Printable Circuits”.
Hey this is mike sinisi, i’m here in the make labs with shenya from agic, who is uh, showing off one of the coolest things that i’ve seen in quite some time, inkjet printed circuits now, you guys have put together a whole system that allows this to be Possible, how did this come about, so this technology was developed in tokyo, japan, and you know that this is a result of the collaborative research between japanese manufacturer and the professor at the university of tokyo and yeah. This is a kind of new technology, so this that the research paper was just published last september and we’re kind of commercializing it yeah. So right here i mean you can see. This is the the demonstration sheet that you guys have created uh. It’S got a variety of circuits on here: uh arduino circuit board uh, some some some capacitors, a variety of antenna, types as well, and these are all functional all functional, so you can even control the resistance by changing the width and length. As you can see here. It’S really some incredible stuff now um. I can immediately think of a lot of applications for something like this, but tell me what are some of the first things you guys have started to do with this it. I think this is uh. This works best for prototyping, so i think we can show the example of you know using this for prototyping. So this is a circuit that to test the microcontroller before i had to um. You know order pcb a lot of times and if you find a mistake, you have to reorder it by using this technology. You can print in a few seconds and revise in a few seconds, and you can, you know, verify this struct works and after that you can just send the gaba data to pcb manufacturer and it works.
So this one, the the white one here. This is actually something you guys inkjet printed right and um. You can see here flipping this on yeah. Look at that i mean this. Is this is working? This is you see? The lights are blinking um inkjet printed circuitry. In effect, that’s that’s incredible and uh, and then this is the the the prototyped uh finished finished version uh, that’s great! Now you’ve got the whole set up here behind us. Can we send a print through and see this in action? Absolutely all right. So, let’s go in here and all right, it’s very easy because we’re just using printer, so you can just put ctrl p to print the circuit great and then special types of paper that you need for this right. So this works with either special coded paper um. Like this or special call, it called transparent pet film either one, but actually this is just a photo paper, so this works with actually any kind of fault paper you can buy on amazon like that and now, in addition to the inkjet printable option. There’S also, you guys have a pen that allows you to hand draw conductive circuits. Can we can we test this out? Absolutely so i’ll? Let you do this. I know you’ve got a great demonstration here so i’ll.
Let you i’ll, let you jump in and draw this out for us. So one of the things shenia has been showing off is a a very simple circuit that involves a coin cell battery an led, a piece of paper uh with uh and the uh and and the inkjet drawn pen. This is uh quite a simple circuit, so let’s go ahead and tape this led into place and by having this whole thing, put together, just the right way and you fold the circuit uh paper, so that the uh so that it creates contact on the battery.
You can see here the led lights up. This is again, this is the example. Flexible circuitry, that’s hand drawn or inkjet printed. I mean really.
The applications for this uh you’ve got prototyping, but then you also have an entire new area that this opens up for what type of uh what type of circuit design can be done so uh. What are you guys doing to help get this out to uh to the world um? So we are on kickstarter right now so uh, the kickstarter campaign. Has you know two weeks left and after that, we’re gon na open the pre-order website and we’re going to receive pre-order after that um? Hopefully we’re going to use some retailer to distribute this all over the world. Great.
Have you gotten a lot of good attention so far? Um yeah kind of our initial goal was 30 000, but we already got 45, so yeah kind of good. Well, i see a lot of potential in this. I’Ve got a feeling that it should go uh pretty big, because there’s there’s amazing applications for something like this. I mean it’s really, i think you’re just at the starting line yeah.
I think so well, thanks for um, thanks for showing this off again inkjet printable circuits uh from agic and uh. I’M really excited about this. Thank you very much. Thank you.
