MAKE @ Engadget Expand 2014: Micro Drone 2.0 and more!

Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “MAKE @ Engadget Expand 2014: Micro Drone 2.0 and more!”.
We’Re here with vernon kurzweil of xtreme flyers, one of my favorite new toys that i picked up at maker faire. I actually got this little quadcopter with the camera. I’Ve had an incredibly fun time flying this around my yard, and here they are at engadget expand and we just found out they’re launching a few new uh upgrades for their kit um. Can you tell us more about it so um so building on the modular architecture of the drone, we’re launching several new accessories over the next couple months, so one of them is going to be um a 3d printed version, so you can 3d print different parts and Then you plug it back together again, so you have lots of quirky different designs and one of them is a gatling gun which can shoot little rockets. So you better chase people around the house and shoot things.

Another thing is a laser pen which will point a laser, and then cat dogs can chase it around the room, wow. Okay, i need the gatling gun one. That sounds amazing. We also saw a demo a little bit earlier. There’S also going to be potentially a larger version of this or an upgrade kit which looks fascinating. Can you just demo it for us real quick? So i picked mine up at maker faire.

You can also buy them in the maker shed um. I’Ve heard they’re extremely popular. What i love about them is, my kids can fly them. I can fly them and, unlike some of the larger ones, really affordable and if they do happen to run into you or run into something they’re pretty durable and they don’t hurt. Like some of the bigger drones, that’s right, so it’s all modular as well! So if you break anything all the parts, click together like lego, so normally in the past, with them with little toy flying things, you have to sort of solder them together and they were just static products with a drone. It’S all modular. So if you break a motor arm or smash it into a wall or even shred, any part and the whole thing clicks back together again and it’s very simple to put together. There’S no soldering no assembly, it’s all modular and some of the upgrades will be just like the camera kit.

That’S available right now, where you can just snap it on and off this one’s got the um there’s no camera on that one, but this one’s with the camera just clips on, like that all right. Well, thank you very much vernon. This is great and make sure you head on over to the maker shed and check them out, because that’s where i got mine at makerfaire and you can also order them online.
