Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “iLuminate: Technology-Driven Dance Choreography”.
Hi, my name is dean hopkins and i’m the technical director for illuminate illuminate uh is a company that combines uh, dance and technology for our live productions. Um and it’s uh. We have our own off-broadway production that runs six days a week uh. We also travel the world and do all kinds of other shows for embassies and large corporations etc. Uh my personal background, oh, i was a musician for like 12 years, an uh audio engineer actually and uh hooked up with morale.
The our ceo and coach and owner of illuminate in l.a she hired me on as a tech. At the time and from there i continued uh working hard. Now i pretty much run the technical side of the company and i love my job every day. It’S a great time constantly developing something new and paving the way for a new type of uh of production.
My production um. Our system basically works on a 2.4 gigahertz network and we have our own proprietary software and hardware that we have designed and been developing for about four years now. Uh morale started the company about five years ago and it’s been uh just like any startup small company. We started very basic wrapping el wire, like you know, i’m sure, you’re from that you might be familiar with el wire.
We’Ve got some examples here. I’Ve been showing people all day, um started with wrapping it inside of some some fishnet on a dancer in union square, and now we build these complex suits that last uh years with some maintenance, some basic maintenance. We do our best to try to broaden the horizon of what’s possible with uh dance and technology.
Yeah uh maker faire’s been amazing um, i’m i’m a nerd at heart, so coming here is like i’m with with all my my fellow people that that, like to think uh about the world in new and new unique ways and um create an outlet for our thoughts Through um, whether it’s making light suits or any of these amazing things – i’ve seen here today, it’s our first time here and we’re going to be here as as often in as many years as you guys are willing to have us.
