Lost Screw Finder

Lost Screw Finder

Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “Lost Screw Finder”.
One of the most frustrating things ever is to drop and lose a crucial screw, especially at the end of a project when the only thing preventing your success is that one missing piece magnets are a great way to recover drop screws. But magnets aren’t always the solution. Some fasteners, such as brass, stainless, steel or plastic, aren’t magnetic and cramped spaces and crevices can make it impossible to reach with a magnet the lost screw. Finder is a project by frank ford from make magazine volume 13, which solves this problem.

Lost Screw Finder

It’S an attachment for your vacuum, which makes short work of retrieving lost, fiddly bits to build this project, you’ll need first trace and cut the holes in the lid of the storage container, use the pvc pipe as a template now cut about one quarter of an inch Off of each end of the pipe elbows cut a short stub of pvc pipe and glue it to the cut end of one of the elbows secure the lid to the elbow by gluing the remaining sleeve from the elbow onto the pipe sandwiching. The lid into place. We’Re not using pvc cement here so use plenty of glue to make a secure bond. This elbow will be the inlet to the container, cut additional pipe and glue it into the angled joint in order to create a pickup tube for the screw. Finder next cut a longer step of pipe and attach the second elbow to the lid. In the same way, this is the outlet side of the container, so you’ll need additional pipe to serve as an attachment point for the screen. The other side of this fitting will attach to your vacuum hose. So a little ingenuity may be required here to connect to your particular vacuum finally cut and fold the mesh screen into a shape that will act as a filter on the outlet pipe glue. This mesh basket securely into place. Let the glue dry, fully snap the container closed and attach the screw finder to your vacuum. Now you’re ready to recover missing fasteners, regardless of their composition or how inaccessible they are.
