Making with Microsoft

Making with Microsoft

Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “Making with Microsoft”.
Tony gutier, i’m a program manager on the iot team with microsoft. What brought us to make a pair was a realization that there’s this vast array of people that are innovating and doing phenomenally interesting things in this new space in the makerspace, and we wanted to uh, join that community and bring what we could to them. Uh with windows and without dev tools and with all the types of things that we’ve been doing to add to the the general pool of innovation. That’S going on in this space.

The most exciting thing for us is that uh. Firstly, it’s a chance for us to actually be here and show products that we’ve worked on technologies that we’ve been working on for the last 12 to 24 months. We last year we entered this space with our first windows on galileo uh project and had phenomenal interest in that, and now we’ve got windows 10 on things like the raspberry pi 2.. We have our partnership with arduino around the virtual shields and remote wiring stuff, and so it was really exciting for us to come here, build a bunch of projects that could appeal to uh. You know the community, and especially the children when you see them, grab hold of some of these things and their faces light up.

They have a great time. Uh, that’s been really very exciting for us today, yeah i have made my own uh project. I have a garage door, uh minder that looks to make sure that my garage door is open and closed talks to me about it. I built a little device to deal with a problem i had with an mp3 player getting too cold in my truck, so i built a little heater for it that monitors the temperature heats. It up turns itself on and off, so it doesn’t flatten my battery uh. So yeah, i consider myself a maker, and this is great. You know it’s a you know it’s a great opportunity to be in this this space and build these things.

Well, what can people expect from us over the next year? Uh? I think you know you can expect us to continue to invest in this area. You know we’ve got uh uh. Last week we did the public release of windows: 10 iot core for uh raspberry pi 2.. We’Ve been working. You know on that later on in this year, we’ll deliver uh the rtm versions of those products and we’re continuing to look, because this isn’t really a project, a process for us or a journey so we’re trying to like work out.

What can we do to make our offering better and to do things better with the community and things like our partnership with the arduino people with the raspberry pi foundation, we’re continuing to look at that and build on it and deliver, and i think you’ll see some Great stuff from us as we get towards rtm and the things we have lined up, post-hard .
