Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “Maker Camp Chimera”.
Maker camp is a virtual summer. Camp for kids maker camp is a fantastic platform and that it serves a wide variety of children, particularly those underrepresented children that maybe don’t have access to free time and crafting. So we started maker camp back in 2012. this year. What we’ve done is we’ve actually incorporated a lot of feedback from our maker camp affiliate sites over the years and we’ve provided them and given them projects and programming that they can run at their own schedule. Children are very excited about science and up here we live kind of in a more rural area, and we don’t have a lot of the fancy science programs that that folks, perhaps in a larger urban area, do so it’s really great that maker camp is supporting and Providing activities for us in a more rural area today, we’ve been doing lots of different types of projects, including a substance called gak, which is like all slimy and interesting to feel. We’Ve been doing a makey makey piano with bananas and we’ve been doing strawbees and we’ve made ping pong rackets to play. Ping pong with one of the biggest impacts that maker camp has had is exposing more girls to science. It’S hard for some parents, because science seems intimidating and a lot of girls aren’t really included in in science and maker camp really helps make it more accessible for girls, and actually, what i wanted to do is thank at t. Who’S been a sponsor of this program. For the last two years, they’re really making a difference, getting kids hands-on with engineering and science technology and math, it’s been a priority of ours and at t is helping us make that happen.
