Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “YOUR favorite Android phone of 2020 was..”.
You know 2020 may have been a pretty crappy year overall, but in the words of my very good friend, mr mobile phones are kind of fun. Again. This year we saw a ton of new foldables from the galaxy z flip to the z-fold 2 to the motorola razer. We saw phones that are more powerful than any phones that we’ve ever seen before, and we saw a re-emergence of the mid-range from a lot of popular brands. But as we do every single year here at android authority, we needed to choose the number one phone of the year, so this year we’ve done an editor’s choice award and also you guys voted on a phone. We have also awarded a reader’s choice award. Now the editor’s choice award was decided between a wide variety of factors. First of all, we have all of our objective testing data that we’ve talked about before. Basically, we test display quality and battery life and audio output and all these different factors and, of course, we test performance using gary sims speed, test g, but there’s also a ton of subjective factors in what make a really good phone, whether it’s the user interface or How the phone just actually feels to use so at this point we got all the editors together, android authority.
We chose from the top best phones of the year and we each chose a top number. One number two number three to create: a top five phones of 2020.. So without further ado, this is the editor’s choice, top 5 and, of course, we’ll have the reader’s choice right after in fifth place, we have the sony xperia. 5.
2. Now i personally absolutely love the sony xperia 1 2, but the xperia 5.2 is a totally underrated phone. I mean it’s a great size.
It has great performance, a great display, great cameras, there’s so many good things about sony phones now and they just don’t really get enough buzz around here, but the xperia 5.2 is such a wonderful device. We had to put it in the top five in fourth place. We awarded it to the oppo find x2 pro and i think this phone kind of came out of left field for a lot of people, but it’s got an amazing 120 hertz display with fantastic color and color accuracy.
It’S got 65 watt charging, so it charges super freaking fast, the snapdragon, 865 tons of ram and, of course, that vegan leather back just kind of sealed the deal for me plus color os – is way better than it used to be. It’S actually a really pleasant user interface to use now, and i totally love that phone this year. So that’s why it got our fourth place spot in third place. We’Ve got the google pixel 4a and, like i said earlier, value is a huge metric. When you think about buying a phone i mean you can pay for four pixel four a’s for the cost of one oppo find x2 pro, which is kind of a big deal. If you need to get phones for you and three of your family members, but the pixel 4a, even though it came out months late this year, it has a fantastic user interface.
The build quality is actually pretty good, especially compared to the pixel 3a and overall, it’s just a really solid device that has access to really unique google assistant features and all of that stuff, including google’s amazing camera system, so congrats to google for the pixel 4a. In third place in second place, we ended up with the pixel 4a 5g and i know you’re, probably saying oh gosh, another pixel 4a, but i think for a lot of people. The 485g was kind of the perfect middle ground between the pixel 4a and the pixel 5.. It still has the snapdragon 765g with those 5g capabilities. It has the extra wide angle camera from the pixel 5 and is a bigger screen for people that didn’t want to have the small screen on the pixel 4a. So, overall, it’s a pretty solid package, especially for what google is asking and in first place for the android authority. Editor’S choice of 2020 we’ve got the samsung galaxy s20 fe and the samsung galaxy s20 fe. I think, took a lot of people by surprise this year. Basically, it’s got everything that you love from the samsung galaxy s20 at an upper mid-range price point i mean you’ve got the a65 you’ve got the 120 hertz display. You’Ve got a very versatile camera system, you’re really only sacrificing like build quality to sub out plastic for metal and glass, and i don’t think that a lot of people dislike plastic that much, i think the s20 fe at 699 is an incredible value and of course You can get it on sale for like 5.99, at a lot of places, you’re, basically getting an s20 for much lower price, so congrats to samsung for the samsung galaxy s20 fe winning our first place. Editor’S choice award; okay, so that was editor’s choice, but you’re probably wondering what was your guys’s pick? The reader’s choice award for 2020? Well, just like with other choice, we started with 16 candidates and we went through multiple rounds of voting to come down to one reader’s choice: phone for 2020., so starting on december 19th, we started pulling you guys and we got 12 000 votes across a bunch of Different platforms and those 16 candidates were weeded down into just four there’s: the google pixel 5, the oneplus 8 pro the samsung galaxy note, 20 ultra and the samsung galaxy s20 fe. So then we went into the second round of voting, and this time we got even more votes by a lot. There were 32 000 votes for the top four best phones of 2020 and it weeded down to the oneplus 8 pro and the samsung galaxy. Note. 20. Ultra now we were down to the final two. We put the poles out across a ton of platforms and, surprisingly um. This vote wasn’t nearly as close as the top four, the ultimate winner of 2020 by a pretty big margin, was the samsung galaxy note 20 ultra. So congrats to samsung for winning the reader’s choice award for 2012. Personally, i love this phone. It’S such a huge improvement over the galaxy s20 ultra that came out earlier in the year.
It’S got that super fast snapdragon, 865 plus it’s got an incredible design way. Better cameras, overall, it’s just a great package of a phone so guys these are the phones that we and you guys voted for for the phone of the year of 2020. But what do you guys think?
