Hi, this is Wayne again with a topic “Does the Google Pixel 6 hold up in 2022?”.
The Google pixel 7 and 7 Pro are set for release in just a few days, but with the arrival of Google’s latest flagships, come potential price drops for the soon-to-be last gen pixel 6 and 6 Pro. But that begs the question: is it worth waiting for the pixel 7 Series, or should you just save your money and buy a pixel 6 or 6 Pro, I’m Harley Morano with Android authority and in this article I’m going to be talking about how the pixel 6 Holds up in 2022 and whether or not you should wait for the pixel 7.. So one reason why the pixel 6 still holds up even in 2022, is thanks to its design, which, even after a year later still looks and feels premium. The aluminum frame feels great in the hand and helps me keep a good grip on the device and the two-tone glass back looks great, clean and simple.
And, of course, you can’t forget about the camera bar, which is one of the pixel 6’s, more standout design features and helps contribute to an overall clean look from the back of the device and while the phone’s aesthetic overall holds up, I will say there are a Few things about it that could be improved in the Next Generation. For starters, the camera bar feels just a little too thick, and it makes me feel a little anxious when I’m putting the phone down on the table as if I’m going to accidentally scratch the camera bar or something but back to the good stuff flipping over to The front of the device, the screen on both the pixel, 6 and 6 Pro definitely still holds up today. The OLED panels get nice and bright, which is great when using the phone Outdoors color. Reproduction is good, black levels are deep and the phones are just a treat to use when watching YouTube and and scrolling through Instagram. The pixel 6, which I’ve been daily driving for about two weeks now, has a refresh rate of up to 90 Hertz, which is definitely better than you know, just a standard 60hz display, although not as buttery smooth as the 120 hertz panel found on the pixel 6. Pro either way, both screens on the pixel, 6 and 6 Pro feel very responsive while scrolling, although I can’t help but wish that the pixel 6 had a 120 hertz panel by the way, if you want to learn our full thoughts on the pixel 6 and 6.
Pro be sure to read our full reviews on Android authority.com. Second reason why the pixel 6 series still holds up in 2022 has to be its camera system. Both phones feature a 50 megapixel main camera and a 12 megapixel Ultra wide camera, while the pixel 6 Pro includes an additional 48 megapixel telephoto shooter.
Now when I say these phones have some of the best smartphone cameras out there don’t just take my word, for it. Have a look at these sample photos taken by myself and some of my colleagues. The camera systems on both phones do a great job of reproducing colors and have pretty good dynamic range.
However, what really contributes to the high image quality is Google’s powerful image processing, which also does a fine job in processing photos in a way that doesn’t over saturate or over sharpen. Your images Google’s night sight feature also makes the pixel 6 and 6 Pro one of the best low-light smartphone cameras out there, as you can see from these photos. Additionally, Google’s use of its in-house tensor silicon unlocks additional image processing features such as magic eraser, which is really effective in removing photobombers.
From the background of your photos, another reason why the pixel 6 series is still the way to go in 2022 has to be thanks to pixel UI, now sure you’re gon na get pixel UI on the 7 Series, but consider the fact that when the pixel 7 And 7 Pro are released. The pixel 6 and 6 Pro will drop in price, and if you want a great Android device without having to Shell out too much cash, then the pixel 6 is going to provide the same, stop android-like experience. But for Less you don’t get the unnecessary bloatware that you’d find on, let’s say a Samsung Galaxy Device.
However, you do get some pixel exclusive features that are actually useful. For example, call screening allows the Google Assistant to answer a call on your behalf so that you don’t have to talk to, let’s say a telemarketer or a scammer, and for someone like me, who gets scam calls every day. This feature has been quite a Time.
Saver. Other pixel exclusive features that I found useful include hold for me, which allows the Google Assistant to wait on hold during a call and then notify you. When a representative is present, then there’s also the recorder app, which can automatically and accurately transcribe your voice notes, which is useful for lectures, interviews or just personal note-taking, while the pixel 6 certainly holds up a year later. There are two key reasons why you may want to just wait for the pixel 7., the first reason being the fingerprint sensor when the pixel 6 and 6 Pro first came out. It wasn’t long until people started complaining about how slow and unreliable the in-screen fingerprint sensor performed. Our team even had varying thoughts about the fingerprint sensors performance ranging from and it’s all right to. This is the most aggravating thing I have ever used now. Google is aware of the issue and even claimed that the slow performance was due to the company’s security algorithms, but no one’s Really Gon na care when there are other phones with faster fingerprint sensors on them.
After using the pixel 6, as my daily driver, I found that the fingerprint sensor was quite slow in reading my print – it’s not bad per se, but I definitely found the sensor to be less reliable than Samsung’s in-screen fingerprint sensor on the s22 series and I’d like To say, I’m a pretty patient guy, but if my hands are full and I need to get at my phone, the last thing I’d want to do is to struggle to unlock my device, and there were definitely times that the pixel 6 fingerprint sensor tested my patience. So here’s hoping that Google fixes the issue with the pixel 7.. The second reason why you may want to hold out for the pixel 7 has to do with connectivity issues with the pixel 6 series. Our team’s wolves surrounding the connectivity issues are well documented on androidauthority.com, with a very special shout out to the pixel 6 Pro.
In fact, one of my colleagues claims that the pixel 6 pro has the worst connectivity and reception of any phone she has ever used and she’s not alone in thinking that, according to our polls, sixty percent of you claim to have consistent connectivity issues with your pixel 6 or 6 Pro, as for me, I didn’t experience any major connection drops while using the pixel 6.. However, I did find that loading YouTube videos, Instagram and video files from Google Drive took longer on the pixel 6 compared to let’s say the Samsung Galaxy Z. Flip 4., but if you live in a place where your cellular infrastructure may not be very reliable or if you’re going on a road trip, that brings you away from civilization, then it’s kind of scary to be relying on a device known for its unreliable connectivity. That being said, it may be worth waiting to see if Google fixes these problems with the pixel 7, rather than jumping the gun on buying a pixel, 6 or 6 Pro we’ve said it again and again that the Google pixel 6 and 6 Pro are some of The best bang for your buck phones out there, but with its successors being released in a few days. The question still stands: should you wait for the pixel 7 Series or settle for the six and the answer to that is really going to depend on the type of phone you want? If you want the best value option, you should consider waiting for the pixel 7 to be released and then buying the pixel 6 when it inevitably drops in price, and the reason for that is because, with a lower price tag, the pixel 6 becomes what the pixel 6A should have been providing you with a flagship like design and performance, but at a lower price, and without any of the compromises that we outlined in our pixel 6A review, such as short battery life, low respect, display and slow charging speeds. But if you’re willing to pay the full price of the pixel 6 and don’t want to deal with quirks like the unreliable fingerprint sensor, then yeah just wait for the pixel 7, which will hopefully show some improvements. Now, if you’re looking to get the best of the best I.E, the pro model with the biggest screen and complete camera system, then just wait for the pixel 7 Pro to come out, which will hopefully fix the connectivity issues and unreliable fingerprint sensor, which we observed with The 6 Pro, but I’m curious: what do you think about the pixel 6 in 2022?
