What is up guys, mrs boss, here and logitech, have just announced what they believe to be the future of tech. So i was lucky enough to be invited to a logitech release event held in a seriously awesome house in london. It was basically just a showcase of their brand new range of products, the harmony. Essentially, the idea is to turn your dumb home into a smart home. Now logitech actually has two different products here. There’S the elite remote as you can see here and then there’s a companion remote, which has nearly the same functionality but is much much cheaper and comes without a display or the nice looks truth be told.
Our current situation is pretty bad. They weren’t wrong when they said we probably have five or six different remotes for all sorts of different devices and most of our living rooms are a total nightmare, throw all of those features into one device and then add about a thousand other features. And you have the logitech harmony elite, so this all works through logitech’s hub which is actually provided.
When you buy the elite controller, you can actually attach it to all sorts of different sensors made by a wide variety of manufacturers. You can attach it to thermostats. You can connect it to a motion sensor and the thing which logitech was really really quite proud of and keen to stress is that this works with products from all sorts of different companies, so by buying a logitech you’re, not tied down to just using logitech products. You could use a google wifi herb, you could use a sonos speaker, for example, and once you’ve actually purchased the hub, you can download their app for free and essentially that just gives you all the functionality on your mobile device, which is even more convenient. I guess now the remote itself looks like a slim down home phone, it’s not as thin as your mobile phone, but it fits comfortably in the hand and is a good weight to actually hold. It.
Has a nice capacitive touchscreen on the front which is actually surprisingly responsive, so at its most basic level, you can replace your tv remotes all of them. You originally enter your manufacturer of your tv as well as the device number and then it’ll instantly start working and i’ve tried on two different tvs. It works seamlessly in terms of lighting if you connect a smart bulb, for example, a philips hue, or something like that. That’Ll instantly connect to wi-fi and also pair with this service.
It also has quite a seamless feel to it, for example, when you’re browsing through tv channels on here. It actually shows you the icons and you can just flick between them on the touchscreen and select which channel you want, it’s actually in a sense, even quicker than using your original remote. Now the cool thing about this is that it’s using infrared wi-fi as well as bluetooth services, so any device you have which uses any of those three things is instantly compatible. Furthermore, even non-smart devices like coffee machines, like light bulbs, if you pair them through with a smart socket, you can buy them for about 10 pounds on amazon, then they can also be controlled by this that’s awesome. The thing i was most impressed by is how it connects totally unrelated types of products. For example, you could set it on a work mode, for example, as soon as you walk past, a motion sensor in your house it’ll instantly turn into after work mode. So it could adjust your lighting, it could turn on your tv to a specific channel and it could play some gentle music in the background.
Smart homes are definitely the future. There’S no doubt about that, and while this isn’t the first company to actually have a stab at it, this is the most successful implementation. I’Ve ever seen thanks a lot for watching guys.
